FAQs

Why does the GDST need financial support?

Our school fees fund an outstanding education and create an environment where girls can learn and achieve their ambitions in full confidence.

In order to invest in new facilities and to ensure that our schools are accessible to the brightest and best, regardless of their financial background, we rely on the support of parents, alumnae and friends of the GDST.

Can I make a tax-efficient gift?

Gift Aid is a great opportunity to increase the value of your gift at no extra cost to you. As a registered charity the GDST can add a total of 25% to the value of your gift if you are a UK taxpayer. In order for the GDST to claim Gift Aid, all we need from you is a declaration confirming that you pay tax in the UK. (Online donors will be prompted to do this as part of the online donation process or you can complete the Gift Aid declaration on the donation form)

If you are a higher-rate taxpayer in the UK, you may also be entitled to claim back the difference between the higher and basic rates of tax on the gross value of your donation at the time of your tax return.

We also welcome contributions via CAF or other charitable trusts and foundations.

Am I able to donate stocks and shares?

Yes. The gift of stocks or shares is a tax-effective way for you to make a significant donation or to dispose of small holdings which you might regard as uneconomic to keep. Usually, when selling shares, you would pay capital gains tax (CGT) on the gain you have made since purchasing them. However, as a charity, the GDST is exempt from CGT and would benefit from the full value of shares gifted to us.
