Blackheath gets high tech accolade

Children at Blackheath High School are at the forefront of using information and communications technology (ICT) to enhance all aspects of their work, and that’s official!

Following extensive external assessment ,Blackheath High School has been awarded the prestigious “ICT Mark” by Becta, the government-funded body responsible for promoting the use of ICT in Britain’s schools and colleges.

The award recognises the school’s success in fully developing the strategic use of ICT in both administration and across the curriculum. Parents can be assured that their children are attending a school at the cutting edge of modern technology.

Head teacher Lisa Laws commented “We are delighted to have been awarded the ICT Mark and proud to be to be the first secondary school in Greenwich LA and the Girls Day Schools Trust (GDST) to have done so. The achievement recognises our positive and pro-active approach to ICT and the benefits it is bringing to our girls’ education. We believe that ICT can be used to support every aspect of learning and that it is essential to help ensure that our pupils are fully equipped for the modern world.”

Neil McLean, Executive Director for Schools and Families at Becta said "Staff and pupils at Blackheath High School thoroughly deserve the accolade of an ICT mark. They clearly demonstrate how important it is to take a holistic approach to using ICT in schools. Their investment in new technology has contributed to substantial improvements in learning."
