Oxford High School students mark National Women in Engineering Day

A group of Year 9 GEM students from Oxford High School spent a busy day in London on June 22nd to mark National Women in Engineering Day 2016. For the second year in a row, the school was invited to Bechtel Engineering’s UK headquarters in Park Royal. In the morning, the girls carried out various investigative and technical activities designed to put their knowledge of load bearing, pivots and mechanical engineering to the test!

After lunch and a tour around Bechtel it was on to Imperial College for a lecture in what it takes to be a Bioengineer. The girls were also taken on a fascinating tour around a maze of high-tech labs, some of which were involved in work such as blast damage research and prosthetics design.

The school is proud to offer its students valuable opportunities like this to engage them in STEM outside of school.
