Royal High celebrates outstanding GCSE results

The GCSE class of 2016 at The Royal High School, Bath are celebrating a fantastic set of results today with 76% of grades either A* or A. Amazingly a third of the girls achieved a clean sweep of A* and A grades in all their exams – an outstanding achievement.

The results are the best for five years at the school.

Students, parents and staff were all thrilled to hear the news. Mrs Jo Duncan, Head of the school, commented:

“I am so proud for all the girls to see such an exceptional set of results this year. They reflect the hard work and commitment they have shown in their studies, as well as the fantastic support and teaching they have received from all the staff here at The Royal High School.

“The girls have worked extremely hard and richly deserve their success. I look forward to seeing them build on this as they return for their A Level and IB studies.

“Overall, a remarkable 98% of the grades this year were A* – C which clearly demonstrates the outstanding, contemporary girl-centred education we provide here.”

In a year of outstanding performances particular mention goes to Minnie Karanjavala (pictured above with Head, Jo Duncan) who achieved 10 A* grades as well as being awarded the Arkwright Scholarship (a national scholarship) for her Design & Technology work, and Isabelle McNab who achieved 9 A* and 1 A whilst balancing her study with training and competing as a swimmer, reaching British Championship and English National level.

Languages continue to thrive at the school, bucking the national trend, with students excelling in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Dutch and Chinese (where 100% of the students, all non-native speakers, achieved an A* or A). In English the school achieved a superb 100% A* to B grades whilst in Mathematics this figure was an impressive 94%.
