The Sheffield High School class of 1999, combined with a group of 2012 leavers, triumphed at the first ever Sheffield High School alumni netball tournament. The tournament, entitled “Leaver’s Last Whistle”, was held to celebrate the retirement of PE teacher and netball enthusiast Helen Thorneloe.

Nine teams from 1999 to 2016 dusted off their kits and came together at the school last weekend to mark Miss Thorneloe’s (formerly Helen Leaver) 23 years teaching at the school.

Speaking about the tournament Helen said:

“It was wonderful to see so many old faces back at school, I was amazed at how many girls and staff returned to school and how far some of them had travelled. As well as all of the netballers, it was lovely to catch up with lots of my former pupils and meet their young families.”

Former pupil, Naomi Graham (née Allum) who left in 1999 and was part of the winning team said:

“What a fantastic day celebrating Miss Thorneloe’s retirement at Sheffield High School. Amazing to see all my old school friends and to play with everyone again! It brought back some fantastic memories of my school days.”
