The Admissions Process

Junior School
For entry into the Junior School (ages 4 – 11), we would normally invite you and your daughter to come in to school for the morning on a day convenient to us both at any time during the school year. She would participate in lessons and experience first hand the vibrancy of the Junior School. During the  morning Jane Pomeroy, Head of the Junior School would oversee her assessment though activities suited to her age range.

If we thought your daughter would be suited to Ipswich High School we would offer her a place. If however staff felt strongly that she was not a suitable candidate we would recommend alternative schools or options.

Senior School
Entry into Year 7 is determined through the Entrance Examination held in the January of the calendar year in which they are due to start. We also invite girls in for an informal interview with the Head and the Deputy Head, and request a report from the Head of her current school.

We aim to send out offer letters a week after the examination. As with the Junior School, the decision not to offer a place will only be made if staff feel strongly that Ipswich High School would not be the right environment for her. If a girl performed badly in the entrance examination but had impressed us in the interview and her current teachers had provided a glowing report on her progress, it may be that we invite her to be re-tested.

Entry into other years is determined through an individual Entrance Examination and interview. Ultimately each girl who applies to the Senior School is assessed individually to ensure that we can provide the right amount of stimulation and enjoyment to enable her to flourish as an individual.

Sixth Form
Entrance into the Sixth Form is dependent on GCSE results, a good school report and an interview. The Sixth Form timetable is drawn up in the spring term prior to the girls’
entry in the autumn term. This means that late entries may not be able to choose all the
subjects they hoped to take due to clashes in lessons timings.
