Director of Communications & Fundraising

c£80,000 plus benefits

The Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) is the largest group of independent schools in the UK, with a family of 29 schools in England and Wales, 4,000 staff and over 20,000 students between the ages of 3 and 18.

It has an outstanding track record in helping students achieve their full potential in every aspect of their lives. As a charity it reinvests all its income into its schools for the benefit of the pupils.

Building on its academic success and reputation, GDST wishes to raise its profile significantly and ensure that it is repositioned as a major voice in the education sector. The new Chief Executive sees this post as being key to achieving these goals.

With a place on the senior management team, reporting directly to the CEO, this new post will be responsible for creating and driving the the organisation’s communications, brand and fundraising strategy across a wide range of stakeholders at both a national and regional level.

This role will need to forge strong and collaborative links with GDST’s schools, build an engaged and motivated workforce and encourage a sense of collective identity. It must be seen to add value to the schools by providing excellent counsel and professional expertise.

Essential Requirements:

  • a communications professional with integrated campaigns experience, particularly media relations and public affairs skills
  • ability to deliver expert communications to a wide and complex network of stakeholders
  • sound judgement and motivational leadership
  • corporate brand and reputation management experience
  • web and social media nous – proven examples of creativity and innovation

A communications professional who is looking to make a difference, in a sector which is passionate about its ability to effect change, will relish the scope and breadth of the role.
