School Magazine
Happy families...
The latest edition of the School Magazine hit the desks in January – and was followed by a “fun-filled” morning as students tried to spot the difference, complete the crossword, answer the school trivia quiz or play OHS Monopoly (at the same time as doing their lessons, of course). This year’s numerous and keen members of the Editorial Committee had put together a special games edition; it was definitely fun to create as well as to read!

The Oxford High School Magazine is published in January, and covers the previous calendar year, or academic year in the case of results, sporting achievements et cetera. It is put together by an editorial team of sixth formers, under the guidance of Ms Girling, and includes work by students of all ages, members of staff and alumnae.
Editing the magazine is a challenging task. We have to please a wide audience (what amuses a Year 11 might traumatise a reception child - better pull that piece of Gothic artwork then!). Not that we mind being offensive - in fact we think it takes a lot to offend an Oxford High girl! And we are lucky that we have a very broad-minded school community, chief among these being Miss Lusk, who has put up with a great deal from the magazine team over the past few years (having a damp basement described as her study; being photographed in wigs or wading through sludge) while invariably being complimentary about the finished publication. (“You have managed to re-create my wardrobe beautifully, Madeleine…” - see page 44.)
Producing the magazine is a steep learning curve for sixth formers ("What? you mean we have to write it ourselves?") and we are proud of our layout skills (no outside designers, thank you).
Alumnae wishing to buy a copy should send a cheque for £6 payable to OHS for the attention of Ms Girling, with their name and address of course.
