 There
is a strong and lively tradition of playmaking at Streatham.
Timetabled study at all levels and extra-curricular
activities help the students to explore and celebrate
all aspects of drama and theatrical arts. There is a
strong interaction with other departments: music, art,
design technology and dance.
In Years 7 - 9 girls take part in a
Shakespeare Festival and an improvisation competition,
as well as scripting and performing plays with their
own lighting and stage design. In later years interested
students may take Drama and Theatre Studies at GCSE
and A Level.
Recent
school plays have been Alcestis and The Ash Girl, and
the musicals The Boy Friend and Hot Mikado. Public examination
candidates take part in full-scale productions for their
final assessment. Clubs for the younger girls are run
by senior drama students.
We watch plays, as well as making them.
We are proud of our programme of theatre visits (around
twenty a year), making good use of our London location.
The girls are able to enjoy, in a wide variety of styles,
some of the finest performances in the world.
