and Visits
All year groups enjoy topic-linked trips and the chance
to work with visiting speakers, theatres or workshops.
Year 5 stay at an environmental centre in Rippledown,
for five days.
Year 6 stay at Avon Tyrrell Residential and Activity
Centre for five days.
Performances
Christmas Carol concert is held for children from Reception
up to year 6.
The Spring concert is where children get the chance
to perform their instruments individually or as part
of a group. The different choirs sing a variety of songs
learnt during the course of the term
Key Stage One
Foundation Stage and Key Stage One
At the end of the Autumn Term, the Reception classes
perform a play with a Christmas theme.
Year 1 perform a play to parents in the Spring Term.
Year 2 perform a play to parents in the Summer Term.
Key Stage
Two
In the Autumn Term a Concert is held for the Junior
Choirs (Years 3-6) to perform to parents with carols,
songs and reading and in the Spring Term a concert is
held in which the Recorder groups, the choir and orchestra
and instrumentalists who have passed Grade 1 or above
perform.
Year 3 perform a play to parents in the Spring Term.
Year 4 perform a play to parents in the Autumn Term.
Year 5 perform a play to parents in the Summer Term.
Year 6 perform a play to parents in the Summer Term.
Sports Days
Sports Days for Foundation Stage and Key Stage One are
held at the Senior Department playing field. Key Stage
Two forms use Tooting Bec Athletics Track.
Doris Ellis
Poetry Competition
The Doris Ellis Poetry Competition is dedicated to the
late Mrs Ellis, mother of the previous Head. All the
girls from Years 3-6 take part by learning a poem between
14-25 lines. The winner receives a prize and her name
is put on the 'Honours' board.
Opalia Trophy
The Opalia Trophy was presented by the Officers and
men of HMS Opalia on their visit to the school as the
girls had been in correspondence with the crew of the
ship. The task set varies annually, and has included
making a poetry anthology or creating a miniature garden.
The winner receives a prize and her name is put on the
'Honours' board.
Art Competition
All the pupils in the school submit a painting on a
theme. A judge from the Senior School is invited to
choose winners from each class. The work of the First
Prize winners is mounted and displayed in the school.
Abbotswood
Day
Towards the end of the Summer Term the Junior Department
join the Senior School at Abbotswood Road for Assembly.
After Assembly the pupils watch a Dress rehearsal of
the senior School Summer Show, in which some Junior
Department girls take part.
 Charity
All classes participate in a termly charity collection
during the Autumn and Spring Term. There is only one
sponsored fund-raising activity per year. A representative
of the chosen charity is invited to talk to the girls
at an Assembly.
