Welcome
to the Music Department. We are a lively and busy department
where we aim to make music a fun, enjoyable and accessible
experience for all pupils - with an emphasis on lots
of practical music making.
The
Music Department has outstanding facilities including
many practise rooms, a recital hall with a baby grand
piano and a dedicated music technology centre complete
with keyboards, computers and the latest score writing
software. The Ellis Hall also has a magnificent two-manual
pipe organ.
As well as the academic staff teaching
within the department,there are 15 self-employed instrumental
tutors offering specialist tuition in piano, strings,
woodwind, brass percussion and voice.
Pupils
in Year 7, 8 and 9 study a wide range of music and cover
skills such as solo performing, group performing, listening
and "theory fun factory" tasks. Many pupils
take music to a further stage at GCSE and A Level.
There
are many musical clubs that students can join including
choirs, orchestra and chamber groups. Throughout the
academic year, there are many concerts for pupils to
perform in.
