GCSE results match A Level success at Newcastle High School for Girls

After celebrating spectacular A Level results last week, Newcastle High School for Girls in Jesmond has cause for a double celebration following the release of the GCSE results today. In a year which has seen major changes to both levels of public exams, girls and staff at the school have risen to the challenge with outstanding grades at both A Level and now at GCSE.

At GCSE, the number of A* grades achieved has risen significantly to 38%, while around two thirds of all grades are A* to A.

Nine girls achieved a stunning full house of all A*s, with 36 girls achieving at least 9 As or A*s at GCSE.

Eleven girls achieved the new and highest possible grade, Grade 9 in English Language, an exceptional achievement considered to be beyond the traditional A* grading.

From next year, the majority of GCSE courses will switch from A – G grades to the new grades 1 – 9.  This year, English Language, Literature and Maths were the frontrunners for the change.

Newcastle High enters girls into International GCSEs for Maths and English Literature, which will change gradings from next year.

For the purpose of reporting, NHSG has converted the numerical grades awarded in English Language into equivalent traditional grades for ease of understanding.

The girls who have studied at Newcastle High for GCSE will be continuing their education into Newcastle High Sixth Form with a number of new girls joining in September.
