Howell’s students debate in the Cambridge Union

Two Year 9 students from Howell’s School, Llandaff are celebrating after successfully competing in a debate at the Cambridge Union.

Having been selected from the regional round back in January, on Saturday 29th  April, Howell’s students Dani K and Izzy H debated against the top teams from all over the UK and countries such as India, Canada and South Africa in the International Competition for Young Debaters at the Cambridge University Union.

They took on the topics of medical testing using placebos, hacking as social protest, the value of religion in the world and whether development aid should be given to corrupt regimes.

Both girls presented strong and coherent arguments on these diverse motions, having had only 15 minutes to prepare for each round, and were pleased to achieve two second placings against such strong competition.

Dani and Izzy represented Wales with great credit at this truly international and high level competition. Well done, girls!
