Ipswich High girls have A*s in their eyes!

This year’s A Level results have given Ipswich High School girls plenty to celebrate. Over 40% of A Level grades this year are A*s or A grades and over 30% of Year 13s received at least one A* among their results.

Additionally, the school achieved A*s across the academic spectrum reflecting the broad strengths and expertise of its Sixth Formers. In 3-D design, 100% of girls achieved A* results as did half of Chemistry students and a third of Art, Biology, French and Maths students.

One student, Hannah Cooper received three A*s in her A Levels and is now off to begin a gap year before she pursues a degree in Medicine.

There was a 100% pass rate (A*-E) among all Ipswich High students this year.

Incredible achievements from the Head Girls

Both Georgina King and Ella Durant, outgoing Head Girls have experienced huge success in their A Levels.

Georgina secured two A*s and an A in her A Levels today enabling her to take up her offer to study Modern and Medieval Languages at Newnham College, University of Cambridge. Georgina was delighted with her results and was eagerly looking forward to beginning her undergraduate degree.

Ella achieved one A* and two A grades in her A Levels and is set to join the University of Leeds to read Liberal Arts. But first, competitive skier Ella has other plans and will take a gap year to work as a ski instructor in Canada. Ella and her family were overjoyed at her results.

Staff and fellow students are incredibly proud of their success and their dedication to the school throughout their time as Head Girls.

Ipswich High School Head, Oona Carlin commented on their success:

“I am delighted and incredibly proud of the achievements of our Head Girls. Ella and Georgina are both extremely bright and talented and have been inspirational to our pupils throughout the school. I wish them huge congratulations and every success in the future.”

Medics, model-makers, lawyers and linguists!

One of the most striking things about this year’s cohort is their varied university destinations and degree subjects.

Three of the 29 leavers are going on to study Medicine at top universities in the field. Other traditional subjects are popular for the shcool’s Sixth Formers with girls choosing Languages, Classics, Law, Mechanical Engineering, Geography and Psychology among others. Additionally, many girls are pursuing more niche areas. Annabel Everson, who achieved an A* in her 3-D Design A Level is pursuing this field further by undertaking a BA (Hons) in Model-making at University of the Arts Bournemouth. While Elizabeth Pickering-Hopland is off to New York to study acting for film.

You’re hired!

With the focus on Higher Education at this time of year, it’s sometimes easy to forget the other alternative options available to students after they complete their A Levels. This year, three Ipswich High students have chosen to begin their careers rather than university.

Sophie Harris will be taking up a position in the Equine industry, Chiara Townsend will begin her apprenticeship at BT and Chloe Calver has been appointed as a Terrorism Insurance Apprentice.
