Leap in A Level A* grades at Streatham and Clapham High

Streatham & Clapham High School students have achieved excellent A Level results, with the pass rate being sustained at 100% for the fifth consecutive year.  The percentage of A Levels awarded the top grade of A* leapt from 8% in 2015 to 14% this year.  This compares with the drop in A* grades awarded nationally to 8.1% this year.

Among the top performers are Alexandra Chaffey (who achieved four A* grades as well as an A* in the Extended Project Qualification), who will proceed to Newnham College, Cambridge to read Natural Sciences; Ellen To (three A* grades, plus an A* in the EPQ), who has been admitted to the London School of Economics to read Economics; Sharleen Hussey (A*A*AA), who will study Mathematics and Physics at the University of Warwick; and Alexandra Lawrence (A*A*A), proceeding to Peterhouse, Cambridge, to read History.

In the context of recent statistics which indicated that in half the nation’s co-educational schools not a single girl studied A Level Physics, it is particularly noteworthy how well SCHS pupils did in this subject: of the pupils who took A Level Physics this year, half achieved an A* grade, as did two-thirds of those who studied Further Mathematics at A Level.

Head Master, Dr Millan Sachania, comments: ‘The public examination results achieved by SCHS students this year testifies to our students’ hard work, dedication and ambition, and I congratulate them, and their teachers, on their achievement.’
