Newcastle High School for Girls in celebratory mood after A Level results

Staff and Sixth formers at Newcastle High School for Girls are in celebratory mood after a bumper year for top grades at A Level. The school is delighted to report an upward trend in results with some spectacular grades among the 100 plus girls receiving A Level results today.

The changes to A Levels this year with the move from modular, course work based exams to a linear system was welcomed by Newcastle High for helping to raise standards in both teaching and learning and the girls and staff have risen to the challenge.

This year’s results at the school include a higher number of top grades together with a greater number of girls achieving all As and A*s.

An impressive 43% of grades were awarded at A/A*, representing a significant increase.

28 girls got all A*/A, nine achieved three A*s and two gained four A*s.

The results have ensured that the majority of the 100 strong year group have secured places at their first choice universities as well as going on to pursue highly competitive degree courses at some of the UK’s top universities.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths, STEM based subjects continue to grow in popularity at Newcastle High with 11 girls successfully gaining the grades to study Medicine, Veterinary Medicine and Dentistry, including one girl who will be studying medicine at Cambridge.

Three girls will be studying Engineering, each gaining three A*s and bagging their first choice universities and another three will be going to Oxbridge.

As well as STEM based degrees, Medicine and Dentistry, there is a broad spread of courses represented in the girls’ next step choices from Economics to Architecture, Classics and Modern Foreign Languages.  One highly talented Sixth Former has secured a place to study Fashion Atelier at the only course of its kind in the UK at the University of the Creative Arts Rochester.
