Northampton High’s Ellie Robinson set for Paralympics debut

Northampton High School pupil Ellie Robinson is preparing to compete in her first Paralympic Games in Rio 2016. Ellie, 15, is a para-swimmer and will be competing in the 50m Fly, 50m, 100m and 400m Freestyle events in the S6 category. She will take her place in the ParalympicsGB team alongside a host of multi-medallists including her namesake and inspiration Ellie Simmonds, whose stunning double gold medal win at London 2012 was the spur for her to take up swimming competitively.

Ellie’s original ambition was to be selected for the Tokyo 2020 Games, but her rapid progress put her on the road to Rio. At the British Gas ASA National Para-Swimming Championships last year Ellie won the Gold medal in the MC 50m Butterfly and silver medals in the MC 50m and 100m Freestyle and holds the British Record for the 50m Butterfly and the World Record for the 100m Butterfly for the S6 classification.

Ellie will be competing on the following days:

  • Friday 9th September: 50m Fly
  • Saturday 10th September: 50m Freestyle
  • Tuesday 13th September: 400m Freestyle
  • Saturday 17th September: 100m Freestyle

On all of the above dates, the heats will be at 13.30 and the finals on the same day at 21.30 UK time. You can watch the action live on Channel 4.

Good luck Ellie, we’ll be cheering you on!
