On Saturday 7 May, Nottingham Girls’ High School welcomed over 150 alumnae and former staff back to the school for a reunion. It was a particularly special occasion this year as it was also a chance to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the school.
The weather was very kind to us on the day so we were able to have a drinks reception outside in the sunshine, where the prosecco and conversation flowed. Guests then made their way into the Dining Hall where a delicious buffet lunch was served. It was lovely to see alumnae from so many year groups catching up with old friends, as well as making new ones, and we were delighted to have leavers here from the 1940s, up to the 2000s.
After lunch, some of our current Sixth Form students were on hand to take guests on guided tours of the school – a great chance for everyone to see how the school has changed over the years, and of course to revisit old classrooms and recall school day shenanigans! An archive exhibition also gave guests the chance to see some lovely pictures and memorabilia from the 140 year history of the school.
After the tours, everyone congregated in the Hall where an afternoon tea was served. Vintage china, tablecloths, bunting and a special 140th birthday cake added to the wonderful atmosphere as everyone chatted into the late afternoon. The Class of 1974, who had rallied over 20 of their alumnae to come along, even carried on the party into the night at a local hotel!
It really was a brilliant day so thank you to everyone who came along. For those who were unable to attend, the next reunion is on Saturday 19 November – save the date, spread the word to your fellow alumnae, and come and join us!
