Nottingham Girls’ High School triumphs at GDST Day of Dance

A team of seven Year 10 girls led Nottingham Girls’ High School to victory at this year’s GDST ‘Day of Dance’ event at the famous Pineapple Dance Studios in London

The girls have been studying Dance as part of the Year 10 curriculum at the school and seven were selected from a group of 30 to take part in the event organised by the GDST.

Miss Jacquie Riley from the school chose the song (Salute by Little Mix) and choreographed most of the routine while the girls themselves choreographed the latter part.

Girls at the school enjoy a full range of PE activities as part of the curriculum as well as many more clubs in a varied enrichment programme. They have worked hard since September in preparation for this event in which 17 of the other GDST schools took part.

On arrival at the Pineapple Studios, the girls took part in dance workshops including ballet, contemporary and musical theatre which they all really enjoyed.

Their performance piece was then judged by members of the Pineapple Studios management team who were really impressed by the quality and creativity of all of the routines.

Participant Sophia Masri commented: “I really enjoyed the day. The workshops were amazing and the teachers were all really talented and nice. Hopefully the GDST will do something like this again.”

Delighted by the win against such a high standard of competition, Director of Sport at the school, Mrs Alex Hall, said: “I’m so proud of these girls and this fantastic and well-deserved achievement.

They’ve worked so hard with Miss Riley, who has been amazing, and this whole experience has really boosted their confidence.”
