Oxford High welcomes A level Russianists, Russian Embassy VIP and Oxford academics

The Head of Russian Studies at Oxford High School, Mrs Ekaterina Solovyova, hosted a fantastic one day conference on Tuesday 28th November for nearly 40 UK students from Eton to St Pauls, all studying A level Russian.

Oxford High School is the only school in Oxfordshire that offers Russian A Level. The school welcomed First Secretary Sergey Gushchin from the Russian Embassy who attended to offer his warm support for the event and to express his appreciation to all the students for their studies.

Professor Julie Curtis together with Dr Oliver Ready from Oxford University joined Mrs Solovyova in leading interactive seminars that enriched the students translation skills and deepened their understanding of the set literary texts.

At the end of this lively and stimulating day Mrs Solovyova and Oxford High students Georgia Geekie and Anna Russell held their own in a live stimulating conversation with broadcaster Howard Bentham at the BBC Radio Oxford studios.

They discussed the learning of modern languages today, took calls from interested radio listeners and the students showcased their oral skills to the county by delivering a magnificent impromptu role play on air in Russian about bananas!

Огромное спасибо всем участникам конференции и удачи в их лингвистическом будущем!
