Year 11 girls at the Royal High School Bath beamed with delight today after learning of their hugely impressive results in this year’s GCSE examinations.
Overall, an incredible 72% of all examinations taken were scored at A* or A grades, and 89% were scored at A* to B, continuing the school’s record of remarkable results. A staggering 53% of girls achieved a run of 8 or more A*-A grades and three girls scored a perfect run of 10 A*s each.
Strong grades were achieved across all subjects, most notably in English Language, English Literature and Biology; in all three subjects 83% of pupils achieved an A* or A grade. In Mathematics, 37% of girls achieved an A* grade.
This flies high above the national average for this subject, both in relation to the national results for the IGCSE course, as studied at the Royal High, and the new standard GCSE course, which has changed to a new grading system this year.
Amongst the top performers were Anna Krysztopik, Tamar David and Alice Bedford who scored 21 A* and 9 A grades between them. The girls were thrilled with their achievements and through tears of joy Alice said:
“I’m so happy! I didn’t think I would do as well as this and I’m just so pleased!”
The whole spread of results reflects the hard work and commitment of the students, of whom the staff and leadership of the school are immensely proud.
The girls are looking forward to celebrating their results and moving into the Sixth Form, where they will begin their A Level or International Baccalaureate courses in September.
Mrs Jo Duncan, Head at The Royal High School commented:
“I am absolutely delighted with the GCSE results again this year and I congratulate the girls and staff on maintaining our excellent standards. Behind the statistics lie many inspirational stories of individual success, hard work and determination.
We are now thoroughly looking forward to welcoming these girls back, as well as over 30 new girls, in September into our vibrant Sixth Form.
They will continue their studies with their choice of A level or IB and I am confident that they will make the most of all of the fantastic opportunities that the School and the GDST have to offer”.
