Sutton alumnae return to school to show pupils they too can break glass ceilings

On Wednesday 8 February, Sutton High School held an inspirational Careers Conference for Years 9-13, attended by 60 delegates and featuring eight separate talks.

A large number of alumnae returned to school as delegates to offer their expertise and to support current girls. They are now succeeding in professions as diverse as law, pharmacy, finance and graphic design, working for organisations including the BBC, Barclays and the Civil Service.

Amongst the returning Old Girls was Maryla Ingham (1995), the only current female lieutenant commander in the Royal Navy in charge of a ship!

The Careers Fair was an eye-opening and exciting event for our girls, and it was invaluable for them to see their predecessors achieving their goals in the world of work, particularly in often male-dominated sectors.

Sutton High students have the ongoing support of our dedicated careers specialist to ask further questions and build on the connections they made. The Careers Fair takes place every two years.
