A Day of Music, Movement, and Creative Expression at GDST Sing

Vocal techniques, rhythm exercises and body percussion sessions were all part of the fun of GDST Sing Juniors. The GDST family’s annual music-making event was this year hosted by Bromley High School, where some 250 Year 4 – 6 pupils gathered to celebrate cross-school collaboration and self-expression through music.

Vocal Workshops and Body Percussion

gdst singIn a series of workshops, choral director and award-winning tenor Charles Béquignon-MacDougall guided the young singers through a series of warm-ups and vocal techniques, emphasising the importance of breath control, pitch accuracy, and vocal expression. And, just as importantly, the power and joy that choral singing brings.

Body percussion workshops were led by Ollie Tumner, director of Beat Goes On: hand claps, foot taps, and other body movements all create rhythm and are unique to the individual.

A rousing rendition of Power of Me was the show-stopping finale to a fulfilling and fun-packed day. See short film below:

Music across the GDST family

The GDST Sing Juniors concert built on the success of 2022’s inaugural GDST Sing event, which saw senior students performing at the Royal Academy of Music. 2023 launched GDST Sing Juniors, which was a huge success and inspired the GDST to continue this annual event series. GDST Sing continues in the GDST tradition of supporting music across its family of 26 schools and academies.
