Exploring particle physics at Oxford University

Oxford High School sent ten budding physics enthusiasts from Year 8 to the Department of Education at Oxford University on January 26th to experience a variety of Key Stage 3 interactive workshops set by the Physics Department.

The day focused on electric fields and particle physics, and they actually built a working particle accelerator out of a plastic bowl and strips of foil.

What would such a day be without a Van de Graaf generator? The pupils fearlessly charged and discharged up an unfortunate Barbie as well as themselves!

It was a superb opportunity that challenged their knowledge of applied physics, and again highlighted how fortunate the school is to enjoy such close links with Oxford University.
