GDST cricketers put Marylebone Cricket Club through its paces

Cricket stars from across the GDST family showcased their impressive skill in a tightly fought match against the acclaimed Marylebone Women’s Cricket Club (MCC).

GDST CricketPlayed on Wednesday 27 April at Hampstead Cricket Club, the GDST Select XI team, comprising the very best cricketers from across GDST schools, lost by only six runs – the closest they have ever come to winning this fixture in the three years it has been organised.

The match, and earlier training session, were glorious successes demonstrating grit, talent and motivation from the young girls after a challenging few years.

Molly McEvoy, a squad member from Wimbledon High School, said, “Even though we didn’t win, it was an amazing experience to play against a very strong and accomplished women’s team, and as most of us hadn’t even sat out GCSEs, hopefully, there will be many more occasions like this to come”.

The event is one of four ‘Select’ sports events run by the GDST on an annual basis. The cricket, the first and flagship event, paved the way for the GDST Select teams and their development in bringing the highest sporting prowess together across the Trust for a day of comradery, challenge and competition.
