GDST Sixth Formers offered exclusive careers insight
This Summer term, Sixth Form students from schools across the GDST network are being offered the opportunity to take a look at working life inside a range of prestigious employers. Rolls-Royce, Aberdeen Asset Management, The Royal Opera House and PwC are each offering an exclusive look behind the scenes at their business.
During each Career Insight Day, students will get the opportunity to ask questions of employees at different levels, tour the business and take part in a career development workshop, covering topics such as the job application process, presenting and commercial awareness.
Students are invited to apply to take part in any of the following insight days:
Rolls-Royce
Monday 13 June 2016, Derby
Taking place at the Rolls-Royce Learning and Development Centre in Derby, students will have the chance to see how STEM skills are practically applied in the workplace. Contrary to popular belief, the organisation doesn’t make cars (that’s Rolls-Royce Motor Cars) but it is involved in huge multi-million pound projects in the aerospace, marine and nuclear sectors. Read more about some of its recent projects.
Aberdeen Asset Management
Friday 17 June 2016, London
A global asset manager, the firm is looking for people who are curious, bright, articulate and hard-working to succeed in all areas of their business. All Aberdeen graduates must complete an internship before joining the graduate scheme – it is therefore essential to get a foot in the door early. Students will learn about the company, meet employees and gain an insight into the asset management industry.
The Royal Opera House
Tuesday 28 June 2016, Thurrock
The Royal Opera House Thurrock’s education programme aims to inspire, support and develop learning and creativity. Students will have the opportunity to discover the fascinating world of the artists and craftspeople who make sets and costumes for productions at the world-famous Royal Opera House. The event includes a tour of the Bob and Tamar Manoukian Production Workshop and Costume Centre; an exploration of design and backstage processes and a hands-on practical workshop in a backstage craft.
PwC
Wednesday 29 June 2016, London
PwC is a professional services network encompassing accountancy, consulting, IT and more. The organisation is consistently ranked one of the top graduate recruiters in the UK (only Teach First hires a greater number of young people), and offers a huge variety of opportunities for talented and motivated students. PwC is streets ahead of other organisations with respect to online resources to support students’ understanding of the workplace.
Interested students should send a short email request, stating the event in which they are interested.
Building on the CareerStart programme delivered in GDST schools, Career Insight Days are focused on improving students’ knowledge of careers opportunities and the transferable skills sought by employers.
