South Hampstead High School has won the Green Award for Environmental Achievement at this year’s Independent Schools of the Year Awards.

The awards were announced during a virtual ceremony hosted by Dr Helen Wright, chair of the panel of 14 judges.

Announcing South Hampstead as winners, the judges praised the school community for its: “great energy, commitment and really practical action to promote and ensure sustainable, positive environmental change – such a good achievement.”

Over the past year, pupils have continued to mobilise Project Zero, with the aim of significantly improving the school’s environmental credentials by South Hampstead’s 150th anniversary in 2026. The Eco Committee, a UN accredited climate change teacher, Headmistress Vicky Bingham’s 365 Club and the whole school community have helped to create a vibrant culture of engagement and action.

Now in its third year, the awards programme was launched by Independent School Parent magazine to celebrate excellence across the sector. This year saw a record number of entries. Congratulations to everyone involved.
