Howell’s School is transformed into the Land of Oz

The end of October saw the transformation of the Sports Hall at Howell’s School, Llandaff into the magical Land of Oz, complete with a Yellow Brick Road winding its way through the audience for the whole school production of The Wizard of Oz, involving students from Year 5 to Year 13.

When a tornado rips through Kansas, Dorothy and her dog, Toto, are whisked away in their house to the magical land of Oz. They follow the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard, and on their way meet a Scarecrow who is in need of a brain, a Tin Man who is missing his heart and a Cowardly Lion who is seeking courage. The foursome have some exciting and, at times, terrifying adventures along the way. Performed over four nights, the show played to a near full house each night, with spectacular acting and dancing, and plenty of well-known musical numbers including Over the Rainbow, Follow the Yellow Brick Road and If I Only Had A Brain.

Thanks to director Mrs Rees, musical director Ms Edwards and choreographer Mrs Manning, the show was a triumph as always. A large scale production like this is very much a team effort, both on and off the stage, and we would never pull it off without such sterling support from staff, students, parents and friends.
