Human rights specialist Bella Sankey comes on board at Brighton & Hove

Brighton and Hove High School are delighted that alumna Bella Sankey has joined the Governing Board.

Bella is a Deputy Director at Reprieve and oversees Reprieve’s human rights advocacy. She joined Reprieve from Liberty, where she served as Director of Policy and led Liberty’s policy development, advocacy and lobbying work. Prior to that she worked in the Legal & Constitutional Affairs Division at the Commonwealth Secretariat, coordinating Rule of Law technical assistance projects between member states.

Bella specialises in the protection of human rights in the context of national security and criminal justice policy and she regularly provides expert testimony in Parliament and the media. She holds a BA from Cambridge University and a LLM from the School of Oriental & African Studies. She was called to the Bar in 2008 and is a non-practicing barrister.

Bella recently gave a talk to our Year 10 students and their parents where she spoke warmly about her time at the High School and the fantastic benefits of an all-girls education. She is an inspiring role model for our students and her broad range of experience will make her an excellent addition to the BHHS governing board.
