Supporter Spotlight: Jackie Lymn Rose

We are hugely grateful to each and every one of our supporters who donate generously to the GDST bursary programme, enabling our recipients to access a GDST education and everything it has to offer.

Jackie Lymn Rose (Class of 1974) is an alumna of Nottingham Girls’ High School. As the Director and fourth generation of A.W. Lymn The Family Funeral Service, Jackie and her family have a rich history and association with the local community in Nottinghamshire and South Derbyshire. Since 1907 they have served and supported the community through the most challenging periods.

Jackie’s dedication to the local community has now extended to where her journey started, in a GDST school where she is supporting a young pupil receive a GDST education with a full bursary. When speaking about supporting this student, Jackie said:

“I enjoyed many happy years during my time at Nottingham Girls’ High Junior and Senior School. When I was invited to be involved in the fundraising committee for the Squire Performing Arts Centre, I saw how happy the girls were and I was reminded about what a wonderful environment it is and how it truly is the best place for a girl’s education in the area.

I feel blessed that I am able to participate in the bursary programme and enable a girl to experience a GDST education and all of the wonderful opportunities that it brings. It fills me with great pride that I can play a part in a bright young girl’s education and development and I am terribly excited to see what she will go on to achieve.

As a family, we have had many women attend the school, including my sister, my sister-in-law and my niece; it felt only right that I should extend this great privilege to outside the family.

For generations, my family has supported families at the end of a loved one’s life and so it feels only right than now I can play a part in the start of a young girls’ life. You can only do you education once and I truly believe that a GDST school will place her in excellent stead for whatever she wants to achieve.”

The student benefitting from Jackie’s generosity began in Year 7 at Nottingham Girls’ High School in September 2022:

“I have settled in well and made loads of new friends, the teachers are lovely. I enjoy all the subjects, but my favourites at the moment are History, Chemistry, Maths and Biology. I’m glad to be at this school and thank you Jackie for making it possible.”
