Launching Women in Music

We are delighted to launch our Women in Music series this February. Dame Judith Weir is our guest for the inaugural event which will be attended by around 300 GDST students from schools across our GDST family. Polly May, Director of Music at Streatham & Clapham School, explains the rationale behind this new initiative.

‘The ‘Women in Music’ lecture series came about after discussions of how music is often seen as a man’s world and that it isn’t a valid career choice for women. We want to share stories of women who have forged careers in music but who have also had their lives shaped by their music.’

The first event takes place on 4th February from 10-11am, with highlights shared on the GDST’s social channels.

Dame Judith Weir features on the AQA GCSE syllabus and is a very celebrated female composer. She has written operas, orchestral works and choral music. In July 2014 she became Master of the Queen’s Music.
