A-level jubilation for Newcastle High girls

There were jubilant scenes at Newcastle High School for Girls, once again celebrating a fabulous set of A-level results. Among them were some outstanding individual achievements for the 84 girls at the school who received the long awaited news today on the grades they have been awarded.

With the hype surrounding the new A-level examinations and the new more rigorous approach adopted by the examining bodies, Newcastle High was delighted to learn that a quarter of the girls have achieved at least two A*s or As in their results and 12 girls achieved the very best outcome of all A*s or As.

Overall, 30% of entries were at the highest grades. These results have ensured that nearly all of the year group have secured places at their chosen universities and will be completing degrees at some of the UK’s top universities.

Reflective of the school’s clear ability to nurture skills across a broad range of subjects, this year’s cohort will be going on to study STEM subjects such as Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Engineering and Architecture, as well as Art and Humanities subjects including International Relations, History, English and Geography.

The Creative Arts too sees girls from Newcastle High going on to study Art foundation and degrees and pursuing their love of Acting at Drama Schools.

Stars at the school include Emma Carrie who as Head Girl continues to demonstrate her exceptional all-round ability, gaining an astounding four A*s. She will be going on to read Physics at Edinburgh University. Jasmine Down also collected four A*s meaning that she more than met the criteria to study Medicine at Birmingham University. Meanwhile Maddie Carter was celebrating her place at the prestigious Rose Bruford College for Acting.

Michael Tippett, who will take up the role of Head formally in September said:

“My heartfelt congratulations to the Class of 2018 for a great set of results. They worked extremely hard over the past two years and have been an integral part of the NHSG community. Behind every set of statistics are the real stories of individual endeavour and personal challenge and I could not be more proud. I am very much looking forward to hearing of these girls’ future successes as they move forward in their education careers and lives.

“As we also look ahead to the coming year and beyond for Newcastle High School for Girls, these impressive results represent an excellent foundation on which to build further future success.”
