Norwich High Sixth Formers rowing to a brighter future

Students at Norwich High School for Girls are celebrating another year of excellent A-level results, with exactly half of all grades at A* to A, and over one third of all girls achieving at least three A* to A grades. Five of these girls were in last year’s highly disciplined Rowing team who took part in the Head of the Charles race in Boston USA in the Autumn, with the whole team of seven gaining an impressive 11 A*s and 9 As altogether.

The school is also delighted to announce that all seven girls who had received offers to study at Oxbridge will be taking up their places. Two girls will be reading History, and the others reading Computer Science, Medicine, French, Classics and Hebrew & German.

The girls have achieved strongly across the whole breadth of subjects available, with highlights including:

  • 100% A* grades in Art A-level, closely followed by 100% A*-B in Textiles and 100% A*- B in Music
  • 100% A* grades in Spanish, with 100% A*- B grades in French and German
  • 100% A*-A grades in Computing
  • 100% A*-B grades in Further Mathematics (of which 86% were A*/A grades).

Many girls enjoyed terrific individual successes, with particular congratulations to the former Head Girl team of Aarushi Ail, Chelsea Crawford, Ella Sharrock and Mary Pinching who achieved an amazing 11 A*s and  six As between them.

Once again, a high percentage of girls have gained their first choice University places in a variety of subjects, with the most popular next step for many being within STEM subjects such as Medicine, Computer Science and Optometry. Five girls have received guaranteed places in Engineering courses including Architectural, Chemical and Mechanical Engineering.

Golf personality Amelia Williamson celebrated an A grade in Physical Education and a B in Geography and is now looking forward to progressing her sporting career at Florida State University.

Kirsty von Malaisé, Headmistress who has seen all of these girls progress from their GCSE years to today said, “I am very proud of all the girls’ strong individual performances, testament to their own hard work and the commitment of our staff. We will miss all the girls very much and look forward to hearing about their ongoing successes in the near future.”
