Nottingham girls set to follow their dreams after stunning A-level results

This year marks two full years under Julie Keller’s headship at Nottingham Girls’ High School, and her vision of a school which encourages girls to aim high and follow their dreams is being widely celebrated today.

The school’s A-level results are even better than last year, and an increase in the number of A* grades marks a positive trend which is set to continue. An impressive 82% of grades were at A*-B and over half at A*-A.

There were exceptional results in Maths (64% A*-A) and Further Maths (62% A*-A) as well as English Literature (100% A*-B) and Geography (71% A*-A).

With seven A* and eight A grades between them, Lucy Mackie will be studying Engineering at Leeds, and Elizabeth Wilde will be studying Electrical Engineering at Southampton. Rosie Reeves will be taking up a place at Newcastle to study Architecture, and Anna Jones will also be going to Leeds to study Computer Science with High-Performance Graphics and Games Engineering.

Connie Brown, who achieved A*s in all her subjects will be taking up a place at Durham to study English Literature.

Some of our girls have chosen to apply to Oxbridge and we’re thrilled for Amy Xu, who will be studying Physics at Oxford, and Anna Hutton who will be studying German and Italian, also at Oxford, while Sena Kurt-Elli will be studying Medicine at Cambridge, and Iphigeneia Vintzileos will be taking up a Cambridge place to study Classics.

Following an extremely successful gap year, including a placement at the United Nations in New York, former Head Girl, Jenny Raw, will be taking up her place to study History and Politics at Oxford.

Many girls opted for courses in the medical field, including Medicine, Neuroscience, Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy & Psychology. Emily Roberts will be studying Medicine at Sheffield, Eden Leaper at Exeter, Isabella Barlow is going on to do Pharmacy at Birmingham and India Newbury takes up Veterinary Medicine at Nottingham.

The breadth of interest continues. Kelsey Alfred will be taking up a place at Durham to study Economics, and Georgina Donaldson will be going to SOAS to study Politics. Lucy Rosenberg, who will be taking a gap year, plans to go to Drama School and Rebecca Stacey will be studying Graphic and Communication Design at Leeds. Huge congratulations to each and every one of them, and indeed to all of our girls.

Enjoying the celebrations with the girls today, Head, Julie Keller, said:

“These results make me very happy and confident in my vision for the future of the school. Every one of these girls has benefited from our bespoke Sixth Form offer, allowing them to pursue the subjects that they want to, ensuring that their needs are met and that they can go on succeeding in the future.”

Looking at the university places offered and accepted, Julie added: “Our girls have smashed that glass ceiling in so many ways. The incredible variety of courses just goes to show what girls actually want to do and are capable of doing, given the freedom and the choice to follow their dreams. These girls have a remarkable future ahead of them; I truly believe there is nothing they cannot turn their hand to.”
