Over a third of Wimbledon High students gain clean sweep of A Level A*s and As

Within a changing academic landscape, where ever increasing grades can no longer be taken as read, students at Wimbledon High School have today achieved an excellent set of results in their A Levels:

• 37% of the cohort (25 girls) received a clean sweep of A*s and As.

• 12% of the year have achieved 3 or more A*s

• 52.2% of English grades are A*

• 73.1% of Maths grades are A* or A

• 100% of grades in five subjects are A*

• 88.5% of grades are A* to B

• 60.5% of grades are A* to A

• 24.3% of grades are A*

• 12 % of the year group will be heading to Oxbridge, having secured their grades for entry.

Head Jane Lunnon said:

“We have seen some outstanding individual successes in these results but overall, they have reflected the fact that no school is immune to what we have seen as an adjustment away from the ever-higher grades of recent years.

“Two-thirds of these grades were awarded under the new A Level course specifications – linear courses which promised, and have certainly delivered, more academic rigour. I am delighted that within this new world, the vast majority of our students have nevertheless achieved the grades they need to get to the best universities in the UK and abroad. They have, as ever, thrown themselves wholeheartedly into school life and will I know go on to achieve great things in the future.”

A total of  68 Wimbledon High students sat the A Level examinations.
