Poetry to be proud of

A poem written by a Brighton and Hove prep school pupil, has been judged one of the best in the country. Lauren (pictured) was the first runner up in Key Stage 2 of the WWF poetry competition, which had more than 2,000 entries.

Lauren’s poignant poem about palm oil and rainforest destruction impressed the judges with its creativity, vocabulary and strong structure. You can read her poem below.

The judging panel included children’s author Yuval Zommer and Mark Wright, WWF’s Director of Science. The poetry competition was open to school-age children, to mark the first ever Living Report for young people. It aimed to raised awareness of environmental issues such as deforestation, animal extinction and climate change.
