Record number of Oxbridge places for Royal High A Level students

Year 13 students at the Royal High School Bath have once again achieved outstanding success in A Level examinations and in the IB diploma. 53% of students achieved all A*-A grades (or IB equivalent) and 74% scored A*-B grades with a 99% pass rate.

Today’s results back up the glowing ISI inspection report the school received earlier this year and complement impressive International Baccalaureate results, released in July, with an average score across the cohort of 37 points, 7 points above the world average.

Four girls scored 40 points and over, out of the possible total of 45 points.

The majority of IB students are going on to Russell Group universities, though the school is also celebrating those who choose to follow their excellent academic success with other career choices, such as one student who fought off some stiff competition to win a place at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

A fantastic 26 girls achieved all A* or A grades and these impressive results reflect the academic ambitions of the girls, seven of whom have successfully met their Oxbridge offers. Sarah Haynes, who achieved four A*s, will be going to Oxford University this September to study Classics. Upon collecting her results, with a beaming smile she said:

“I’m so relieved! It’s been such a long wait since the exams, but I’m so excited now and really looking to the next 4 years at Oxford! I love this school and I’m so grateful for all the support I’ve been given over the last 7 years.”

Girls who undertook the EPQ (Extended Project Qualification), a course much valued by universities, also achieved excellent results with 76% A*- A grades.

After securing a place at her chosen University, former Head Girl Olivia Chick has a fantastic opportunity lined up;

“I’m really pleased with my results! I’m looking forward to going to UCL to study Geography next year, but first I’m going to travel to India to work on a women’s empowerment programme. I can’t wait! Everyone at school has been so helpful and supportive, I’m really grateful.”

Mrs Jo Duncan, Head at The Royal High School commented:

 “We are so proud to be celebrating this group of wonderful young women that we have been privileged to work with. These girls have not just been studying for examinations during their time at RHS, they have grown up here.

Their involvement in a whole range of activities has been impressive and they have shown generosity, dedication, kindness and a willingness to make a difference. This is what really counts.

I know that they will remain part of the RHS family through our Alumnae Network, and as part of the Girls’ Day School Trust, they will have access to the fantastic GDST alumnae network. I look forward to hearing about their progress in the future.”
