Sheffield Girls’ multimillion pound refurbishment of gym

The Gym at Sheffield Girls’ has undergone a £2.5 million refurbishment, providing new facilities for gymnastics and trampolining, as well as a fitness suite. The Gym, located in a former chapel and Grade 2 listed building facing Newbould Lane has been heavily used by the PE department since it became part of the school campus in 1970 and had got to a point where it needed more than general maintenance. A project team, led by the Girls’ Day School Trust was formed to oversee the planning and execution of the scheme.

Contractors have been on site for the past academic year and work was completed in time for the new term in September. The new venue houses state of the art sport and performance facilities for girls throughout the school including a fitness suite, eating area and refurbished Drama Studio.

Headmistress Mrs Dunsford said “The development of our sports facilities is part of our on-going commitment to ensuring the facilities at Sheffield Girls’ match the high standard of education on offer. This is a multimillion pound investment from the Girls’ Day School Trust and we are delighted to see the Gym restored to its former glory.”

We are planning an alumni event during the Spring Term for any former pupils and staff wishing to see the new development. To register your interest, please go to https://goo.gl/forms/9OvAQSTOJnHMjD1n1
