Shrewsbury High girls rise to challenge of new A-levels

Shrewsbury High School celebrated a wonderful set of results this year with the girls tackling the new A-levels with aplomb. The school’s results increased this year, despite fears nationally that students would find the new qualifications more difficult. The school has always enjoyed an excellent academic reputation and has once again secured a 100% pass rate with 58% of all grades at A*-B and 84% at A*-C.

“We are very proud of the girls as they have navigated the demands of the new A-level with great skill and now have very exciting university places to look forward to”, commented Headmaster, Michael Getty.

“We are particularly delighted with the achievements of this year group, as they do illustrate how hard work brings its reward. The girls have needed to show real tenacity to rise to the challenge of the new A-level and, as always, it is quite inspiring to see girls securing a clean sweep of top grades.

“It is important to recognise that girls like Jennie Howitt, Maddie Hartland, Honor Wilcox and Abby Li achieved straight A*/A grades in a hugely diverse range of subjects, from English to Mathematics, from Psychology to Languages, whilst also balancing significant responsibility and extracurricular involvement alongside their studies.

“Hard work and dedication have been the key for this year group. The progress they have made has been excellent. The girls now head to some of the most prestigious universities across the country and we wish them well!”
