Shrewsbury High School

Following rigorous and lengthy consideration, GDST Trustees have made the decision to transfer ownership of Shrewsbury High School to Inspired Learning Group (ILG).

The move offers new opportunities for the school which we believe are in the best interests of students, staff and the wider community.

Market conditions in the Shrewsbury area are changing. As a semi-rural school, factors including a declining birth rate, VAT on fees and rising operational costs are having a significant impact.

To support the school’s long-term future, changing the educational offer to co-education will enable more students and families to benefit from Shrewsbury High School’s excellent teaching and facilities, helping the school to remain competitive.

As the GDST’s mission and purpose rests firmly in girls’ education – where we are committed to helping girls learn without limits, so they can go on to lead lives without limits – we believe this transition is best overseen by ILG, a group of schools already leading the way in the delivery of co-education.

We are immensely proud of the outstanding achievements of Shrewsbury High School students, past and present, and the dedication and expertise of staff. Former students will continue to be valued members of the GDST community and remain connected through the GDST alumnae network of over 100,000 women worldwide.
