Streatham & Clapham girls learn the power of networking

Pupils from Streatham & Clapham High School recently had the opportunity to develop their networking skills with young professionals working across a range of careers, from financial services, healthcare and journalism to real estate, politics and education.

Ten SCHS alumnae kindly gave their time to host small groups of pupils in years 10 to 13 for ‘speed networking’ sessions lasting five minutes per group. Pupils interacted with their hosts to find out about their careers, experiences and motivations.

The event was jointly organised by the Head of Sixth Form and the Development Office to encourage girls to develop their confidence in networking – an essential skill in today’s highly competitive jobs market. For many of the girls it was the first time they’d ever attended an event like this but thanks to the enthusiasm and encouragement of our alumnae it proved to be beneficial for all concerned.

Toscanie Hulett, Lower 6th, commented: “It was amazing to see how women from the same school could end up working in so many fields and careers that I never even knew about. The evening helped to spark my imagination and opened my mind to a huge variety of careers. Knowing that our alumnae hosts started off as SCHS girls just like us, and have now become wonderful role models, is truly inspirational.”

Also in attendance was GDST Chief Executive, Cheryl Giovannoni, who joined the pupils as they made their way around the various stations.

We are most grateful to our alumnae hosts who volunteered their time and spoke so candidly about their experiences of the world of work.
