Talking tech and ethics with Oxford High students

Students at Oxford High School enjoyed the school’s first Technology and Ethics Forum, an event organised by Year 12 student, Anoushka Patel. Anoushka is a STEM Academic Scholar and Arkwright Engineering Scholar.

The forum offered the chance to learn about how leading edge technology is affecting daily life, and to explore the public and corporate responsibility to ensure that good comes out of technological advancement.

The distinguished panel of experts included:

  • Mr Peter Casey, COO of Carluccio’s Restaurant Chain
  • Dr John Williams, Culham Centre for Fusion Energy
  • Professor Paul Newman,  Co-founder of Oxbotica, Professor of Information Engineering at Oxford University
  • Dr Harriet van der Vliet, Senior Quantum Engineer at Oxford Instruments plc.

The panel spoke in front of an audience of Oxford High students, parents and alumnae, and a robust debate and discussion from the floor followed.

The debate covered different subjects across the school, and offered students a privileged opportunity to ask questions from the science and business leaders.

It was a provocative and stimulating evening, and it’s clear that we’ll hear much more about Anoushka in the future!
