“We are extremely proud of the determination and resilience shown by the pupils”

Pupils at Portsmouth High School were celebrating this morning after receiving their GCSE results.

“This year, once again, has been very challenging for our GCSE students but they have worked so hard and should be proud to celebrate their success,” said Headmistress, Mrs Jane Prescott.

“We are delighted with the results of our students today. This has been a very difficult two years, coming out of a pandemic and learning to be together again as a cohort. They have all worked hard and we look forward to welcoming them back to Portsmouth High School Sixth Form in September.” – Headmistress, Mrs Jane Prescott

Miss Amy Davies, Head of Year 11, added,

“We are extremely proud of the determination and resilience shown by the pupils over the last two years, considering their education has been disrupted. They have risen to every challenge and adapted quickly to a mixture of in person and online learning. They have all supported each other, remained positive throughout the course of their studies and worked hard to prepare themselves for their GCSE examinations. They deserve every success today and as they embark on their A-Level studies; they are a truly remarkable cohort.”

Thea and Eve (both 16) had 6A*s and 14x9s between them.

Thea said, “I’m going to celebrate with my friends today and will be returning to Portsmouth High Sixth Form to take Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics for A-Levels. I am looking forward to more freedom and the chance to study different subjects when I return.”

Eve added, “I am not sure how I will celebrate today but definitely will tell my family!’ I am going to be taking Biology, Chemistry and Spanish at PHS for Sixth Form and I am so excited about all the opportunities here as well as the A-Levels.”

Emma, 16 had a mixture of top grades; 3A*s, 2x9s, 3x8s and 2x7s and said, “I got my three A*s in my two English papers and Geography. I am planning on taking English, Art and Psychology at A-Level here at Portsmouth High School. I am really excited to be coming back for Sixth Form; having a new structure to the day and taking Psychology which I haven’t done before. I am off now shopping for clothes for Sixth Form with my mum and then going to a party later.”

Priyanka, also 16, received 3A*s, 6x9s and an 8. “I am going home to pack now as off on holiday to Turkey tomorrow! I’ll be back in time for Sixth Form in early September and be taking Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology with a view to studying dentistry at university.”

Shaamba, 16, added, “I am really proud of my results. There were a couple of surprises and I did better than my mocks. I am going to be doing Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics for A-Levels and really excited about Sixth Form, particularly Charity Week.”

Keilidh, 16, was delighted with her results of 2A*s, A, 9, 7, 3x6s, 4 and a 3. “I am very happy and very pleased with all my results. I am coming back for Geography, DT and Psychology at A-Level and off to celebrate now.” Keilidh has had a difficult two years of A-Levels – mostly being taught by the teachers at home via Teams links. Her father added, “There is no other school that would have put in the time to get Keilidh to where she is with these results today.”
