Wimbledon High students go global

Students at Wimbledon High School may only just be beginning a busy new term, but many also enjoyed a jet-setting summer break. It all kicked off as Year 10 Spanish students jetted off to the picturesque town of Salamanca for their study visit. They had the chance to spend time with a host family (whilst putting their Spanish language skills to the test,) explored the town and learnt some valuable new facts about the culture whilst enjoying the Spanish sunshine.

The Akenkan team spent three weeks in rural Ghana, setting up and teaching a summer school for local children, including handing out and reading from their very own books (watch the video). It was a truly wonderful and enriching experience.

The school’s World Challenge students spent a month on the Silk Route (Kyrgyzstan & Uzbekistan) – a major expedition of hiking, mountaineering and volunteer work.

Year 12 Drama students had the chance to perform their show Cold Comfort Farm at the world famous Edinburgh Festival, and of course, to watch a variety of other performances taking place.

Year 11 and 12 Physicists were part of the 83 students across a number of different GDST schools who enjoyed an incredible trip to NASA in Florida, including a special lunch with astronaut Scott Parazynski.

Finally, the Wimbledon High Gold Duke of Edinburgh crew spent five days completing their qualifying expedition which involved trekking, camping and exploring the (invariably wet) English countryside!
