A winning weekend at the Royal High School
On the weekend of 25th-26th November, The Royal High School in Bath played host to an incredibly successful GDST Hockey Tournament. The weekend saw over 250 Year 9 girls competing in a Cup, Trophy and Plate competition.
The school is uniquely positioned as the only boarding school in the GDST, the newly refurbished chic boarding facilities at the Royal High enabled girls to stay for the weekend.
The school’s PE department organised the competition headlined by Kate Richardson-Walsh, Captain of the GB Hockey gold medal winning team at the Rio Olympics.
Accompanied by RHS 1st XI hockey captains Diana and Willa, Kate visited each pitch during the tournament inspiring the young players with her gold medal and signing a great number of sticks! Kate later spoke to all girls inspiring players and staff alike with her story.
The Royal High also hosted ‘an evening with Kate Richardson-Walsh’ on Saturday night in which Kate shared her passion, drive and determination with external visitors to the Royal High.
Visitors attending travelled from as far afield as Tavistock and Wales as well as representation from local hockey clubs.
Congratulations to Northampton High School, the overall winners who beat Nottingham Girls’ High School in the final. Also to Newcastle High School who won the trophy.
Well done to everyone involved, especially The Royal High School, who delivered a hugely successful sporting weekend.
