Northwood College for Girls is an outstanding school. Unlike more selective schools, Northwood College welcomes girls from a wider ability range, this is because they do not concentrate purely on league tables but on the job of ensuring that each girl fulfils her academic potential.
Having outperformed 95% of all UK schools with an outstanding set of ‘value-added’ GCSE figures, Northwood College, is an academically strong school.
'Value-added' results demonstrate the difference between the examination grades that a child achieves to the grades that she was predicted when assessed in Year 7. If the student’s actual grade exceeds her predicted grade, that difference represents the improvement that she has made, ie the 'value-added'.
Northwood College girls consistently add one, two or even three grades to their predicted grades - a true testament to the exceptionally high standard of a Northwood College education and the effectiveness of their forward-thinking teaching techniques and approach.
The Head and her team work extremely hard to consistently provide a centre of excellence, where each individual lesson and extra-curricular activity is designed to ultimately craft, inspire and develop the optimum future for the girls.
The school builds relationships of trust and mutual respect to inspire a collaborative approach to learning. Every pupil is encouraged to realise her potential through the monitoring of progress, both academic and personal, and the setting of appropriate targets. Academic and pastoral supervision are equally prominent, reflecting a focus on the whole person.
Northwood College recognises that to succeed in our fast-paced world the girls need more than exam results alone; their
The school firmly believes that to fulfil her potential it is important that each child feels happy, secure and valued, and they work hard to ensure that having fun and making friends for life are integral parts of a Northwood College education. With 66 extra-curricular clubs available each week, the school day provides opportunities and experiences that allow the girls to discover and harness their individual interests and talents.
‘Excellent in every Category’ according to the school’s latest ISI Inspection Report and schoolguide.co.uk spent a day there earlier this year when they completed a 5 star review which included the following comment:
"An academic school with two very special features at its heart: a unique Thinking Skills Programme which enables girls to develop independent and creative thinking, taking them far beyond an exam curriculum and our unrivalled pastoral care which rests on the premise that a happy girl will always achieve her best. A school that buzzes with life where girls achieve outstanding results."
