Portsmouth High School is the leading independent school for girls aged 3 to 18 along the south coast of England. The school was founded in 1882 and has a long history of academic success. Former pupils have achieved success in a multitude of careers and many attribute their success to the strong academic and social foundations they received from the school.
The school is one of the 23 schools and two academies owned and run by the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), the principal provider of independent education for girls in the country. Pupils can benefit from the GDST Alumnae Network, an active community of around 75,000 former students and staff. It’s the biggest network of its kind in the country and is there to provide advice and help on any career path.
Portsmouth High School really values the individual and enables every pupil to be the best she can be. Staff take time to get to know the girls well and encourage them to take calculated risks and develop their intellectual curiosity while achieving very well in a vibrant environment. There is a strong emphasis on the value of an all-through education starting in the Pre-School where the first foundations for success are laid, and continuing right through to the Sixth Form.
