Direct Debit forms

FAQs

  • Fees
    • Who do I contact regarding school fees?

For payment of school fees, including annual pre-payment but excluding Nursery fees, contact the fees administrator for your daughter’s school. Find a school.

For enquiries relating to nursery fees, childcare vouchers and Early Years grants, contact our Fees Admin Team at feesbilling@wes.gdst.net.

For queries relating to GDST school fee pre-payment plans (two years or more) retained deposits and staff bills, contact Ms Jacqui Ruane at jacqueline.ruane@wes.gdst.net.

To tell us about any changes to your email address, home addresses or telephone number, contact our Fees Admin Team at feesbilling@wes.gdst.net.

    • How do you invoice for school fees?

School fees are billed on a termly basis, prior to the start of each term, in August, December and April. Your invoice will confirm the total amount due for the forthcoming term, the collection date(s) and amounts depending on the frequency of the direct debit mandate completed.

    • How can I pay school fees?

Our required method of payment is termly in advance by direct debit, as a concession we do offer a monthly direct debit scheme. A direct debit instruction form should be completed and returned to the Fees Department to establish the arrangement or to change Bank details for an existing direct debit. Please ensure that two clear months are given for any new instruction (although in some circumstances we can effect a change in less time).

You may also pay school fees annually in advance by cheque and should contact the Fees Department for information on this method of payment along with information on our pre-payment scheme which allows you to pay a lump sum to cover all or part of the estimated future fees for a specific period.

    • How does the direct debit scheme work?

For payment by termly direct debit one-third of the annual fee due will be debited to your bank account on or within the first 7 days of each term. For payment by monthly direct debit one-twelfth of the annual fee due will be debited on the 5th day of each month. If the 5th falls on a bank holiday or weekend the payment is collected on the next working day. Monthly payments commence at the beginning of the academic year in September and the last payment of the academic year is due in August.

    • Do I incur a charge if an item is unpaid by my bank?

You will incur an administration charge of £12.00 if your direct debit is unpaid by your Bank. The Trust will write to you to confirm that the item has not been paid. If the unpaid item is due to an error made at your Bank you should contact your Bank directly upon receipt of our letter.

    • Can you re-present my direct debit if it is unpaid?

We do not currently re-present an unpaid direct debit and you would therefore need to arrange to send a cheque/bankers draft for the sum in question (along with any charge incurred) to this office. Alternatively you may transfer the funds direct to the Trust Account but must ensure that your deposit quotes your child’s unique pupil reference number.

    • Can I pay by cheque or credit card?

Our required method of payment is direct debit, however, if a direct debit is unpaid you should send a cheque to the Fees Department at 10 Bressenden Place, London, SW1E 5DH  Cheques should be made payable to The Girls’ Day School Trust. We would also ask you to note your child’s unique pupil reference identification number on the reverse of the cheque. As a one off you may also pay the missed instalment via bank transfer and should contact the Fees Department to arrange this.

      .

    • What is a pupil reference?

A unique pupil reference identification number is allocated to your child when they start at a Trust School; this reference will stay with them throughout their time at the school and should be quoted on all manual payments and correspondence. It would also be also useful if you could quote this reference when calling the Fees Department with any query.

    • When will I get my retained deposit back?

For all pupils leaving during, or at the end of a term, retained deposits will be refunded (less any monies due to the school) within 8 weeks of the schools official last day of that term, providing the GDST hold valid Bank account details.

Bursaries / Scholarships

Everyone should have access to an outstanding education. Our bursaries are awarded in cases of financial hardship and our scholarships for outstanding academic merit. Every girl who is bright and keen should be able to realise her potential.

Individual schools also provide their own opportunities – so please also check our individual school websites to find out more.

How to apply for a bursary

  • Step 1: Complete school application form

Complete a school application form to register your daughter indicating that you would like to apply for financial assistance. You will be provided with access to the online bursary site.

  • Step 2: Declaration of income and assets

Once registered on the site, you will be able to access the online ‘Declaration of Income & Assets’ form, which you should complete and submit before the closing date advised.

You will need to provide proof of your income and assets, such as P60s, payslips, HMRC self-assessment forms, mortgage statements, council tax bills, or recent benefits paperwork. These can be uploaded direct to the site via the Document Phase of the application process.

  • Step 3: Assessing your eligibility

The GDST will assess your eligibility for a bursary. Our staff may also make an appointment to visit you at home. The GDST then lets the school know whether you qualify and the maximum amount of financial assistance we can offer you.

    For example:

    • If your family’s assessable income and resources are below £87,500 a year (£92,500 for London schools), you may be eligible for some support
    • If your family’s annual income is less than £37,500 (or £42,500 for London schools), you may be offered a full bursary
    • For families whose annual income is between these levels, a sliding scale determines the amount of assistance they may be offered

Your child’s academic performance will be a key consideration when the school is deciding whether or not to award a bursary.

  • Step 4: Confirmation of decision

If you are eligible and the school feels your daughter would thrive there, the school will send you details of the bursary award it can offer your family at the same time it offers your child a place.

Bursary FAQs

  • What is the difference between a bursary and a scholarship?

The key difference is that a bursary is means-tested and a scholarship isn’t. We offer bursaries so that a GDST education is accessible to the best and the brightest girls, including those who are not in a position to pay full fees.

A bursary takes into account academic ability, but its value is directly related to the income and financial resources of the pupil’s family.

Scholarships are awarded purely on academic (or sporting, or artistic, or musical) merit, as measured in a competitive entrance exam, and take no account of family income or resources.

  • Who can apply for a bursary or scholarship?

GDST bursaries and scholarships are available to any student aged 11 and over at a GDST Senior School. Most bursaries and scholarships are allocated on entry either to Year 7 or to the Sixth Form (Year 12).

  • How much is a bursary or scholarship worth?

Bursaries range from 30% to 100% of fees; however, the amount of any bursary depends on local demand and the funding available. Sometimes awards of a lesser value may be offered. Pupils who get a full bursary may also get help to meet the cost of their uniforms, lunches and travel, allowing them to make the very most of the educational opportunities offered by the school.

The values of scholarships vary but are generally small and are more about the honour of the award than the amount given. A scholarship may, however, be supplemented by a bursary.

  • Who is eligible for a GDST bursary?

To assess who is eligible for a bursary, we consider a range of objective criteria, including the income and capital resources of the families applying. It is anticipated that bursary awards will last for the duration of the student’s time at school.

We re-assess bursary awards every year to take account of any significant changes in family income and circumstances. A bursary may go up or down to reflect such changes. This ensures those most in need continue to receive our support.

Most higher-value bursaries are awarded to pupils from families with a total income of less than £37,500 per year (or £42,500 for London schools) who have no capital assets other than their home.

It is highly unlikely that a bursary would be awarded to a family whose annual income is greater than £87,500 (or £92,500 for London schools), other than in very exceptional circumstances.

  • Could a bursary or scholarship be withdrawn?

Very rarely, the school may withdraw a bursary or scholarship if, for example, you provide inaccurate information, or your child’s behaviour or work is unsatisfactory.
