I work for the GDST as Estates Manager and Business Partner, and this year I chose to donate to the Academies Fund. This appeal has helped to bridge the digital divide that became apparent during the pandemic, and I am thrilled that the appeal has reached and exceeded its original target. Consequently, girls at Birkenhead High and Belvedere Academy returned to school in September armed with all the digital resources they need to be able to fully participate in a GDST education.

Although I work from Trust Office on construction and maintenance projects, every member of staff is encouraged to visit at least one school when they first join – no matter what their role – to get a glimpse of the education on offer. Since joining, I have had the pleasure of visiting a number of schools to help with various projects and have always found the experience motivational. My knowledge of the organisation has given me the confidence to donate, knowing that my contribution will be put to good use.  I knew that my contribution would go towards providing an opportunity for bright and ambitious girls to progress their education. Through this unprecedented system, the organisation’s forward-thinking has shown that the GDST can deliver whatever the circumstances.

The GDST’s mission of educating girls from all backgrounds is crucial for the next generation. Girls need to have the education and confidence to critically analyse the world around them, so that in turn they can invest in following generations. The proof of the GDST’s effectiveness is evidenced by how many women in the public eye have been educated by a GDST school. Our schools provide an excellent and affordable education, giving girls the tools they need to succeed. We unashamedly put the girls first and I’m proud to support our future leaders.

Earlier this year, my colleagues launched the first GDST-wide bursary campaign. For those considering contributing to this, I can confidently say that we have very experienced staff dealing with bursary applications and the donations will be well managed. Undoubtedly due to the pandemic, there will be a greater demand for bursaries going forwards and fewer people might feel they can make a donation. But please know that whatever level of gift your finances allow, it will make a difference! By investing in education and young people at this time, we will all feel the benefit in the long-run.
