Birkenhead High School Academy celebrates another year of GCSE successes
With 12 students being awarded a full sweep of A/A* grades and a fifth of all entries attaining the top grades of A/A*, staff and students are celebrating another year of successful GCSE results at Birkenhead High School Academy.
Despite fears nationally over Maths and English being “more challenging” and the new 1 – 9 grading system, 65% of BHSA students attained standard passes in five or more GCSE subjects and over a third attained strong passes.
The school’s English GCSE results were particularly impressive with the new national progress measure showing students achieving a whole grade higher at BHSA than at other schools nationally.
Birkenhead High’s overall progress figure shows all Year 11 students achieved on average nearly a quarter of a grade higher at BHSA than at other schools nationally.
Pooja Ward who achieved all A*/A grades and 8/9 in English and Maths said “I’m so happy with my results! I’m staying at BHSA for 6th form and am studying Maths, Biology and Chemistry.”
And Georgia Sweeney, who also received outstanding results, said: “I’m really grateful to all the teachers for helping me to get the results I wanted! I’m staying on to study English, History and Spanish A-levels.”
Twins Hannah and Philippa Carter also achieved top grades and are looking forward to continuing into the Sixth Form and studying Maths, Physics, Biology and Chemistry.
Rebecca Mahony, Principal of Birkenhead High School Academy, said:
“We are so proud of the girls and their achievements. This is the result of their hard work and commitment, the outstanding efforts of their teachers and the continued support from parents. At BHSA we have high expectations and the girls have risen to meet them again this year!”
